A true example of a Colorado company, giving globally, American Furniture
Warehouse unveiled its “American’s Warehouse for the World
Campaign” to benefit Project C.U.R.E.
Through the campaign, American Furniture Warehouse will match all donations
up to $1 million, dollar for dollar, to help further Project
C.U.R.E.’s mission.
Since 1987, Project C.U.R.E. Denver has utilized donated vacant
warehouse space where supplies and equipment are sorted and stored.
Unfortunately, once the warehouses are rented or sold to paying
occupants, Project C.U.R.E. must then find another donated warehouse and
move hundreds of pallets of stored supplies and equipment. The frequent
moves often result in thousands of dollars in moving costs and lost
productivity for Denver operations.
In response, the Rotary Club of Littleton initiated a
campaign to raise $500,000 to build a 10,000 sq. ft. permanent sorting
facility for Project C.U.R.E. at Centennial Airport as part of its
celebration of Rotary International’s Centennial Anniversary.
Project C.U.R.E. expanded this vision to include plans for a 100,000
sq. ft. hanger warehouse attached to the sorting center distribute the
donated medical supplies and equipment.
This new
facility will finally provide Project C.U.R.E. with a permanent home for
its Denver Operations. It will make these operations more efficient by
helping Project C.U.R.E. to drastically cut down on transportation and
storage costs. Moreover, the new facility will
provide a one-stop shop for Project C.U.R.E.’s 5,000 local volunteers
and medical supply and equipment donors to participate on a daily basis.
“We are very much in need of a permanent facility in Denver that will
enable us to work more efficiently and cost-effectively. Doing so will
in turn allow us to facilitate the delivery of quality medical care to
even more people in desperate need of medical care all over the world,”
explained Dr. Doug Jackson, President/CEO of Project C.U.R.E.
Since Jake Jabs, president and CEO of American Furniture Warehouse,
opened his first store in 1975, American Furniture Warehouse has
supported many worthwhile organizations that help people in need all
over Colorado. During his time in the Armed Forces as well as throughout
his career as a major furniture importer, Jabs has traveled throughout
more than 50 countries all over the world and has personally witnessed
the impact of poverty and disease in some of the world’s poorest
regions.
“Images of men, women and children suffering from preventable illness
and infection have touched my heart, and after learning about the
incredible work that Project C.U.R.E. does to help provide adequate
medical care to hundreds of thousands of people all over the world, I
just had to get involved,” Jabs explained. “As a global company, I
believe that American Furniture Warehouse has a responsibility to help
those who need it most throughout the world, in addition to giving a
hand up to those in our own backyard, and we are acting on that belief
with the launch of American’s Warehouse for the World Campaign.”
“American’s Warehouse for the World Campaign" is an innovative
move for a local business,” Dr. Jackson stated. “We are so very grateful
to Mr. Jabs and American Furniture Warehouse for stepping up to the
plate and leading the charge by challenging other Colorado companies and
individuals to give globally as well through this generous dollar for
dollar matching grant."
