At the invitation of Project C.U.R.E., Dr. Zac Nsenga, Rwandan
Ambassador to the United States, returned to Denver, Colorado on
Wednesday, September 8th, 2004. As a follow up to the visit last April
by Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Ambassador Nsenga presented official
letters of appreciation from the President to Governor Bill Owens,
Mayor John Hickenlooper, DU President Marc Holtzman, Admiral Richard
Truly from NREL, and Drs. Jim and Doug Jackson from Project
C.U.R.E.
During his visit, Ambassador Nsenga also met with several other
Denver-area organizations to follow up on possible partnership
opportunities and resources for Rwanda’s redevelopment efforts
including: the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), University
of Denver, Water for People, the University of Colorado Health Sciences
Center, Denver Hospice, Centura Health, And OZ Architecture.
This past April, His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of
Rwanda, traveled to Denver, to educate key audiences on Rwanda’s
history, reconciliation and rebuilding efforts. President Kagame spoke
in a public address at Magness Arena at the University of Denver,
nearly 10 years to the day after the onset of the violent, 100-day
genocide that took place in Rwanda in 1994. The event drew a crowd of
more than 4,500 people from all over the state of Colorado.
As part of Rwanda’s long-term re-development efforts, Project
C.U.R.E. has committed to delivering more than $10 million of donated
medical supplies and equipment to Rwanda in the next 12 to 18 months
– which is about 25 semi-truck trailers of medical relief. The
commitment represents one million dollars of medical aid for
every year since the genocide in 1994. Since January 2004, Project
C.U.R.E. has sent 5 of the 25 shipments to
Rwanda. |
