PROJECT C.U.R.E. owes its success to individual volunteers and groups of volunteers who devote thousands of hours every year to the organization's mission.

Barbara and Merl Jacobsen Award for Outstanding Volunteer of the Quarter


In honor of Barbara and Merl Jacobsen's contributions to the organization, PROJECT C.U.R.E. encourages individuals to nominate fellow volunteers for consideration for the Outstanding Volunteer of the Quarter award. The program was started in May 2009.

You would never guess in talking with Barbara Jacobsen that she was a reluctant first-time visitor to Africa 14 years ago. Her husband, Dr. Merl Jacobsen, a retired family practice physician, convinced her to travel to Africa with him as part of a medical delegation for PROJECT C.U.R.E. She was initially apprehensive of the primitive environment, but the experience proved to be life-transforming.
